A dictionary of common racial terms for multi racial asians. If I missed a word or want to expand on an existing term just create a post on the forum.
Amerasian
The term was first used during the wars in Asia where you had American soldiers having children with Asians. This was often a negative term as these kids were often times considered outcasts in asia. A few found their way to America, but many ended up on the streets to die. In recent years Amerasians have become more 'popular' for their exotic western features.
Blasian
This refers to those with an Asian and Black or African background.
Eurasian
First used to identify half Indian and European, but later spread to include the mix Asian and European ancenstry.
Hapa
Hapa derives from the Hawaiian language and literally means 'half' or 'part of'. The Hawaiian dictionary defines Hapa as: of mixed blood, person of mixed blood, as hapa Hawai'i, part Hawaiian. The word has been used to describe somebody who is Hapa(half/part) popolo(black), haole(white), pake(chinese), kolea(korean), pilipino(filipino), kepani(japanese), kamoa(samoan), sepania(spanish), and so on.
Race
There is really only one race and that is the human race. When talking about race based on peoples ethnic background we mean social 'race' which is defined by people. Social race is something which is not set in stone as it is constantly changing and being challenged. One day, far far in the future, we might have one race where we do not judge people on the color of their skin, but on the content of their character.
