The Japanese, in order to fulfill the principle of being obstinate when it comes to sea creatures and endangerment, have rejected a fishing ban on bluefin tuna suggested by the UN.

^ Japan is taking the heat for now. In the future, the seas will be dominated by Chinese and African fishermen who care even less.

South Korean media reports that textbooks published in foreign countries contain serious errors about South Korea.

Germany: textbook describes the story of a 13-yo girl who works 11 hours a day in a windowless factory.
Argentina: describes South Korea as infested with malaria, and that Chinese is the national language.
Chili: describes South Korea as a "malnourished" country.
Paraguay: describes South Korea as a "Portuguese colony".
Mexico: describes Korea as "Chinese territory before 1910", and shows pictures of non-Koreans.
Kuwait: describes Buddhism as the "state religion of South Korea", and the national languages are "Chinese and Japanese".
UK: describes South Korea as a "typical backward country in need of international aid to survive."
Italy: describes South Korea as a "nuclear-armed state".
USA: shows a historical map of Korea as "Chinese territory". (which is true, depending on the time period.)

Japan has performed very poorly at the 2010 Winter Olympics (3 medals as of today, compared to South Korea's 10.) This has led Japanese media to publish articles questioning Japan's commitment to sports. Japanese olympic athletes say that support for them is very poor; South Korean olympic hopefuls are given a salary and receive extensive support during the games, whereas Japanese olympic hopefuls receive no salaries, are required to pay a fee to be a part of the Japanese Olympic team, and their coaches will sometimes not travel with them to the games because they receive no money.

During the 20th century, Japanese were obsessed with proving their country's worth, and they produced many athletes, artists, and scientists. However, nobody questions Japan's potential anymore, and the culture as a whole no longer cares about achievement.

Japan and South Korea have gotten into a racial name-calling contest, calling each other's food terrible. The foreign affairs column on Sankei Shinbun (the Japanese equivalent of Wall Street Journal) called the Korean bi bim bop "uncivilized food". In response, Korean media has called sushi "uncivilized". The offense was triggered by full-page ads for Korean food on the New York Times, which made Japanese feel threatened.

Ishihara Shintaro, the openly fascist governor of Tokyo, has said that Japan is "stupid" for cheering an athlete who won a bronze medal at the Olympics. He says Japan's poor performance reflects the lack of patriotism among youth.

In Uttar Pradesh, caste prejudices are increasing. The government has offered a 50,000-rupee award (about $1000) to inter-caste couples, but only 31 couples stepped forward last year.

The racial brawl between Japan and South Korea has escalated into cyberspace. Kim Yuna won the gold medal in figure skating, while Japan's Mao Asada won the silver, which triggered a flood of racial hate on 2ch, Japan's premier forum for racists. Combined with the 3-1 independence movement day in South Korea, Koreans staged a massive cyberattack on 2ch which has brought it down for the day.

Repeating the cliche that the "world’s economic centre of gravity is moving eastward", Asian economies are showing the fastest growth rates for now. Asian countries are very quickly catching up to become just like the lifeless, stagnant countries of the West -- where jobs are scarce, the population is aging, obesity rates are rising, young people waste their energy on "legalizing drugs", "the glaciers are melting in a faraway place", or other decadent issues, listening to pop music that hasn't changed at all in 20 years.

People's Liberation Army (PLA) Senior Colonel, Liu Mingfu, has published a book advocating that China become the world's #1 military power and topple the USA. China faces a population that will rapidly grow old in coming years, plus an economy that will run out of steam when it runs out of catch-up work. "If the United States can light a fire in China's backyard, we can also light a fire in their backyard," warns Colonel Dai Xu. This seems to refer to Latin American countries, who are eager to one-up the USA. Latin American countries sided with the Nazis during the early years of WW2, then called themselves "allies" when the allies started winning. Both the USA and China are surrounded by countries who hate it, but are unlikely to have the stomach to fight on either side.

In India, an elephant was brought to a wedding, as a common custom. The elephant went into heat and went berserk, trashing the wedding, flipping over 20 cars, and chased a female elephant. The elephant handler panicked and fled, while a passing mack truck got smashed and rolled into a ditch.

CNN is promoting the myth that ugly white men get all the girls in Japan. The comic book, Charisma Man, is set in Roppongi, which is in reality a very seedy and violent neighborhood that only attracts clueless tourists. I've been to Roppongi before and witnessed attractive Western men have no luck at all meeting Japanese girls. Japan is a closed society where people are not interested in meeting strangers, especially in Tokyo. Foreigners are as common as weeds in Japan today, including the countryside. The Japanese media has reported extensively on crimes committed by foreigners; they are usually commited by Brazilians or Iranians, but few Japanese understand the difference. Most Japanese women have no interest in talking to foreign men.

In Japan, members of the imperial family attend the gakushuin, an exclusive school reserved for members of aristocracy. Aiko, the 8-yo daughter of the emperor, is skipping school because of bullying by classmates. Aiko takes after her mother Masako, a commoner who married into the imperial family and has suffered severe mental problems.

Vietnam has infuriated both China and Japan by purchasing military hardware and nuclear power plants from Russia. Vietnam has had military tensions with China over territorial disputes in the Spratley Islands, and has been upgrading its navy. Vietnam was supposed to purchase nuclear power plants from either Japan or France, but decided at the last minute to purchase from Russia instead. Japan resents Russian influence in the region, as Japan has its own territorial disputes with Russia over the Kurile Islands. China and Japan have spoken of an "East Asian community", meaning a neighborhood dominated by China/Japan, and leaders from both countries complained that Vietnam is not being a team player.

In South Korea, President Lee Myung-Bak says his personal role model is Park Chung Hee, the brutal dictator of South Korea who transformed the nation from a basket case into an industrial power. He is now engaged in a long-running feud with Park's daughter, Park Geun-hye, over building "Sejong City". Lee wants to build a science-and-research park, while Park wants to build a bureaucratic city of government offices. South Korea (and other Asian nations) have built "science cities" before, and they have usually failed; they initially generate a lot of headlines, then turn into money-wasting failures with abandoned office buildings. The two politicians are competing for ways to waste more taxpayer money on useless projects.

In Vietnam, an illiterate 53-yo woman went to the supermarket and bought 3 packets of curry powder. She served curry at a family funeral. Then all around her, people began vomiting and falling unconscious. The curry powder turned out to be rat poison.

In India, where hysterical mobs kill anyone accused of witchcraft, a family of psychos turned out to be true practitioners who butcher children. The parents were arrested for killing a 4-yo girl and poisoning their 3-yo nephew. Then the parents' 12-yo daughter Smita stranged a 4-yo boy, and a village mob discovered the boy's body in a kiosk next to the house.

The Indian supreme court has ruled that mothers who kill unwanted baby daughters are not necessarily guilty. ‘‘She is an ignorant lady living in a wretched condition below poverty line. That she is barely able to keep intact her soul and body is proved by the fact that her husband is a daily wager,’’ the high court judges noted while giving the order. Medical records showed the girl got married at the age of 15 and became a mother a few years later. ‘‘No doubt by the time she became a mother she had attained the age of majority, but that would be as per law. Was she under the circumstances mature enough to not only think of herself but fight the social environment around her? We think not,’’ the high court bench noted.

In the Republic of Georgia, which had a war with Russia in 2008, the news channel Imedi ran a parody news report claiming that "Russian tanks are invading Georgia", and showed figher jets flying over Tbilisi. Panicked residents flooded into the streets, some of them having heart attacks. President Saakashvili condemned the irresponsible prank.
